Our hotels have many stories to tell
Each of our four hotels has its own unique story – shaped by its location, its people and the passage of time. As a hotel group, we are united by a shared ambition: to respect our heritage while caring for, developing and breathing new life into these special places. Their stories live within the walls, but it is the people, encounters and experiences that keep them alive.
Arken Hotel & Art Garden Spa
Gothenburg, Torslanda – 15 minutes from central Gothenburg
Arken was originally built as a recreational facility for employees of the Götaverken shipyard in the Port of Gothenburg. It opened in May 1975.
Lotus Hotel Group took over in 2007 and made significant investments in the property. In 2010, Art Garden Spa was created – a unique oasis for relaxation and wellbeing, and the crowning touch to the hotel’s transformation.
Billingehus
Skövde, at the top of Billingen hill
The idea for Billingehus in Skövde was born as part of a greater vision – to create an outdoor recreation paradise on Billingen hill. The hotel opened in 1970.
Since 2022, Billingehus has been owned and operated by Lotus Hotel Group. An extensive renovation followed, and the hotel reopened in summer 2023. Two years later, the new Billingehus was fully completed, with two spa areas and a new congress hall accommodating up to 750 guests.
Hôtel Eggers
Gothenburg, Drottningtorget – 78 steps from the Central Station
Dating back to 1859, Hôtel Eggers is proud to be one of Sweden’s oldest hotels still in operation.
In 2015, a new chapter began in the hotel’s long history when Lotus Hotel Group took over ownership of Hôtel Eggers.
Varbergs Stadshotell & Asia Spa
Varberg, in the heart of town and close to the sea
A classic city hotel built in 1902, where the atmospheric charm of the turn of the 20th century blends with influences from ancient Eastern traditions.
In 1994, the hotel was taken over by its current owners, Anna Riis and Lars-Olof Oskarsson. Asia Spa opened in autumn 2001. This marked the beginning of Lotus Hotel Group.

1994
Varbergs Stadshotell
Anna Riis and Lars-Olof Oskarsson takes over Varbergs Stadshotell, located by the main square in Varberg, and begin developing the hotel.
2001
Asia Spa opens
Varbergs Stadshotell is extended with an Asian-inspired spa following a study trip to Japan. Asia Spa opens in autumn 2001.
2007
Arken Hotel
Arken Hotel in Gothenburg becomes part of the hotel group, followed by a complete renovation of the hotel.
2010
Art Garden Spa opens
Arken Hotel is extended with Art Garden Spa – a unique oasis set among the rocks by the harbour, created for relaxation and memorable experiences.
2015
Hôtel Eggers
This historic hotel on Drottningtorget in Gothenburg becomes part of the hotel group, making it the third Lotus Hotel. Hôtel Eggers is carefully enhanced with period-inspired wallpapers and interiors, alongside further development of its classic restaurant.
2020
Art Garden Spa expands
The largest investment since the hotel first opened is undertaken. New outdoor pools, experience showers and terraces are created among the rocks. The entrance and restaurant are also developed, creating an even warmer and more welcoming destination.
2021-2022
Asia Spa expands
The much-loved Asia Spa expands with new relaxation rooms, an orangery and the Sora rooftop bar. Today, the rooftop also features a sun terrace, infinity pool, cold plunge pool and outdoor saunas overlooking the Kattegat and Varberg Fortress.
2021-2023
Billingehus
In autumn 2021, the modernist gem Billingehus is welcomed into the hotel family. In summer 2023, the new Billingehus opens following a carefully considered redevelopment and renovation, with a focus on experiences for body and mind – both indoors and outdoors.
2024-2025
Earth & Elevation Spa
Earth Spa at Billingehus opens in spring 2024, closely followed by Elevation Spa and Restaurant Urtid in early 2025.
2025
New congress hall at Billingehus
In spring 2025, Bergasalen opens – a spectacular event venue for around 700 guests, with sweeping views across the Västergötland plains.
